Its HOLI

“Amma, why are they burning her?? Is she an Angel? Or a Demon? ”

“Krishna, sit. Let me tell you about her. She’s Holika, the cruel Hiranyakasipa’s sister.”

“Amma, who were they??”

Hiranyakasipa was a demon king, who was very cruel and wicked. He never liked Lord Vishnu, But was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. He had a son, Prahlad. Prahlad was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, So Hiranyakasipa wanted to kill him.

“Ah! So bad of him Amma. Then what happened??”

He tried hard to kill his son, But failed miserably. Then he called his sister Holika. She had a blessing that no fire would ever burn her. So, Hiranyakasipa asked her to take Prahlad in her lap and enter the fire.

“Then, What had happened Amma? Did Prahlad die??

“No krishna! Evil will never win dear. It was Prahlad, who was untouched by fire. Holika got burnt to death. Later, Lord Vishnu also punished Hiranyakasipa by taking Narasimha avatar.” It is Holika’s death, We celebrate as Holi.

“Oh Amma, thank you for letting me know the story. HAPPY HOLI Amma!!”

So many things keep me busy...but I just found a way to store them forever. There is so much of Telugu in here as I just love my mothertongue....

  1. Nice story telling Sri. One word I’d change is ‘rude’. It doesn’t sound like grounds for killing someone. Maybe ‘cruel’ or ‘wicked’ would be better? ‘taking Narasimha avatar’ needs some explanation too for those (like me) who don’t know the myth.
